Hydroquinone mega guide

What is Hydroquinone?

Hydroquinone is a phenolic compound that has been used for decades as a first-line treatment for hyperpigmentation.

It is considered one of the most effective topical agents for reducing melanin and fading dark spots, melasma and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

MOA (mechanism of action)

Hydroquinone inhibits tyrosinase, the rate-limiting enzyme in melanin synthesis, just like MSM and L-Glutathione.

By reducing the production of melanin at the cellular level, it leads to gradual lightening of the skin over time. It also disrupts the formation and function of melanosomes, the pigment-carrying structures in skin cells.
