The deltoids

Anatomy

The deltoid is the muscle covering the shoulder joint.

It consists of three heads:

Anterior delts

Origin: Lateral third of clavicle

Function: Shoulder flexion, internal rotation, horizontal adduction

Lateral delts

Origin: Acromion of scapula

Function: Shoulder abduction

Posterior delts

Origin: Spine of scapula

Function: Spine of scapula Shoulder extension, external rotation, horizontal abduction

Why is this muscle so interesting?

It is one of the only muscles besides the neck that improve your looks. This is not a baseless claim, there are multiple studies suggesting that.

It can massively improve your bideltoid breadth, which is something any male should desire.

How do we train it?

Shoulder press

Hits the front and side delts pretty much.

Lateral raises

You can do those with a cable or dumbbells.

Some studies showed non-significant differences between both forms of this exercise, so feel free to do what you prefer as long as you stay consistent.

Rear delt flyes

Preferably do this exercise at a machine or with a cable. You can also perform this exercise unilaterally.

Let this ring in your brain like a mantra: Consistency is the key.

Pin it on your wall if you need to.
