Ideal Facial Ratios - Front

ESR - Eye Separation Ratio

ESR is measured by dividing the interpupillary distance (distance between the centres of the pupils) by the the bizygomatic width (distance from cheekbone to cheekbone).

The ideal ratio is between 0.44-0.48

Facial thirds (%)

The upper third (height between the hairline to the middle part of the eyebrows), middle third (height between the middle part of the eyebrows to the bottom of the nose) and lower third (height between the bottom of the nose to bottom of the chin) of the face.

The ideal should be approximately 33% each

Facial Width to Height Ratio (FWHR)

The FWHR is measured by dividing the bizygomatic width (distance from cheekbone to cheekbone) by the height of the middle part of the eyebrow to the upper lip.

The ideal ratio should be 1.9-2.06

Jaw frontal angle

This measurement is the inclination (in degrees) of the jaw. It is measured as shown below.

The ideal angle is between 84.5-95 degrees

Cheekbone height

This is going to be measured by dividing the distance from the upper lip to the height of your pupils by the distance from your upper lip to the widest part of your cheekbones.

Ideally this ratio should be between 80 and 100%

Total Facial Width to Height ratio

This is going to be measured by dividing the distance from the bottom of the chin to the hairline, and dividing that by the width of the widest point of your cheekbones.

The ideal ratio will fall into the range of 1.33-1.38 with 1.35 being the most ideal

Bigonial width (%)

This is going to be the width of your jaw measured at your mouth line, divided by distance of the widest point of your cheekbones multiplied by 100.

The ideal ratio is going to be 85.5%-94%

Chin to philtrum ratio

Is measured by dividing the height of the middle part of the lips to the bottom of the chin by the height of the bottom of the nose to the middle part of the lips.

The ideal ratio is between 2.05 - 2.55

Neck width (%)

Is measured by dividing the width of your neck by the width of your jaw and multiply by 100.

The ideal ratio is between 90 and 100%

Mouth width to nose width ratio

Measured by dividing the width of the mouth by the width of the nose. The ideal ratio is between 1.38, and 1.53

Midface ratio

Measured by dividing the interpupillary distance (distance between the centres of the pupils) by the height of the nasion to the upper lip.

The ideal ratio is between 0.97 and 1.1

Eye spacing ratio

Measured by dividing the distance between the inner point of each eye by the PFL

Ideal ratio is between 0.93 and 1.04

Eye aspect ratio

Measured by dividing the PFL by the PFH

The ideal ratio is between 2.8 and 3.5

Lower lip to upper lip ratio

Measured by dividing the height of the lower lip to that of the lower lip.

The ideal ratio is between 1.4 and 2

Eyebrow tilt

Measured by drawing a line following the brow inclination and a straight line.

The ideal ratio is between 5 and 13 degrees

Lower 3rd proportions

Measured by dividing the distance from the lip line to the nose by the distance from the lip line to the chin and multiplied by 100.

Ideal ratio is between 31% and 40%

Canthal tilt

The inclination of the eyes in degrees.

The ideal canthal tilt is between 1 and 7 degrees.
